Challenge

Uber Freight is Uber's logistics and freight brokerage division that operates as a distinct business unit within Uber's broader ecosystem. Uber Freight needed sophisticated communications infrastructure to establish itself as an industry leader in the supply chain logistics market, while managing complex stakeholder relationships across shippers, carriers, and the broader logistics community.

This required a careful messaging architecture that could resonate with diverse audiences, from truck drivers to Fortune 500 supply chain executives.

Later, Uber Freight was preparing for a transformative $2.25 billion acquisition of Transplace, a major managed transportation and logistics provider. The transaction required a thoughtful internal and external communications strategy to address employee concerns, customer continuity, competitive positioning, and media narratives across both organizations.

Strategic Approach

Our goal was to build a foundational strategic messaging framework that could scale with the business while supporting immediate tactical needs. We developed comprehensive messaging pillars, reasons to believe, and supporting messaging points that served as the backbone for all communications activities and major strategic initiatives, while providing flexibility for different business unit customization. We also served as consultants to revamping the product marketing messaging and branding..

For the Uber Freight acquisition communications, we emphasized proactive stakeholder engagement and narrative control. This meant developing communications strategies that anticipated questions and concerns before they arose, creating content that addressed multiple audience needs simultaneously, and ensuring internal and external messages reinforced rather than contradicted each other.
